For those of you who want to root your Galaxy S4, here’s another root method using TWRP recovery. Why another method? Well, at the time of this video, some models do not have CWM recovery available. But TWRP recovery is just as good as CWM recovery and installation is nearly identical but using different menus. You can always switch to CWM recovery after rooting later down the line if you prefer CWM recovery.
Here’s “CWM Method” of rooting your Samsung Galaxy S4. For those of you who have been waiting to install custom ROM on your Verizon Galaxy S4 with ME7, ME7, MI1, MJ7, or MK2 firmware or AT&T Galaxy S4 with MF3, MK2, NB1, or NC1 firmware, there’s finally a new method using SafeStrap Recovery by XDA user Hashcode. For those of you who want root on your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, here’s an easy way to do it. Before we begin, this root method is for the latest firmware ending in UCUAMF3 (check this under Settings->About device). If you have a newer firmware, this root method may or may not work (I have no way to tell since I don’t have a time machine.) but should be safe to do. To root your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, simply download the APK file geohot.com/activeroot and install the app.
For those of you who just picked up a brand, new Verizon Galaxy S4 SCH-i545, there’s a root method out now. Currently, Verizon Galaxy S4 bootloader is locked, meaning you cannot use CWM or TWRP root method. Also, the VRUAMDK kernel on the Verizon Galaxy S4 comes with SU-co*k-block which makes it hard to root. *UPDATE: There’s is a different root method for ME7, please see How to Root for Verizon Galaxy S4 on Build VRUAME7!
For those of you who tried to install regular CWM recovery for AT&T or Verizon S4 with locked bootloader, you may end up in a nasty bootloop. To fix, you just simply need to flash stock recovery back with ODIN. Download the tar file and flash with ODIN, your phone should be booting now. Also, you can install stock recovery on any stock firmware that you’ve rooted with CWM or TWRP recovery so you can take OTA.
