For those of you looking for the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat AOSP ROM with an endless number of features along with multi-window (and even experimental floating multi-window), you may want to just try the SOKP ROM. It’s available for most Galaxy S4 variants including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, MetroPCS, Canadian, GT-i9505, and GT-i9500 Galaxy S4 models.
SOKP ROM, which stands for Sonic Open Kang Project, is based on the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat sources coupled with every imaginable customization you can do with an AOSP ROM.
First and foremost, you will most likely find your favorite AOSP customization feature on this ROM. SOKP ROM also features many features from other AOSP ROMs such as Halo floating notifications from ParanoidAndroid ROM, multi-window from Omni ROM, and much much more.
There’s even an experimental floating multi-window feature, which allows you to get similar floating multi-window found on the Galaxy Note 3. (See video overview above for demo.) I haven’t quite got it working 100% but it does work and it’s exciting that the floating multi-window is finally coming alive to AOSP ROMs.
SOKP ROM also features 3 different launchers to choose from and it’s easy to switch your launchers using the SOKP Control in Settings. (Go to Home in SOKP Control) The ROM comes with standard KitKat launcher, Galaxy Launcher (which makes your phone look like TouchWiz although it’s not really TouchWiz), and Inspire Launcher.
For audio, you will find Digital Dolby, AudioFX, and Unique DTS HD Audio System which should give you some excellent sound quality.
Overall, I am really impressed with SOKP ROM as it packs a ton of features while speed and battery life is excellent. If you haven’t tried SOKP ROM yet and you are looking for a good custom ROM to play around this week(end), give this ROM a test drive and do let me know what you think! (But I have a feeling you will like it much.)

What is a Custom ROM?
A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.
With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.
How to Install Custom ROMs
First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.
Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!
