SOKP ROM for Galaxy S4! [KitKat AOSP/Multi-Window]

For those of you looking for the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat AOSP ROM with an endless number of features along with multi-window (and even experimental floating multi-window), you may want to just try the SOKP ROM. It’s available for most Galaxy S4 variants including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, MetroPCS, Canadian, GT-i9505, and GT-i9500 Galaxy S4 models.

SOKP ROM, which stands for Sonic Open Kang Project, is based on the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat sources coupled with every imaginable customization you can do with an AOSP ROM.

First and foremost, you will most likely find your favorite AOSP customization feature on this ROM.  SOKP ROM also features many features from other AOSP ROMs such as Halo floating notifications from ParanoidAndroid ROM, multi-window from Omni ROM, and much much more.

There’s even an experimental floating multi-window feature, which allows you to get similar floating multi-window found on the Galaxy Note 3. (See video overview above for demo.)  I haven’t quite got it working 100% but it does work and it’s exciting that the floating multi-window is finally coming alive to AOSP ROMs.

SOKP ROM also features 3 different launchers to choose from and it’s easy to switch your launchers using the SOKP Control in Settings. (Go to Home in SOKP Control)  The ROM comes with standard KitKat launcher, Galaxy Launcher (which makes your phone look like TouchWiz although it’s not really TouchWiz), and Inspire Launcher.

For audio, you will find Digital Dolby, AudioFX, and Unique DTS HD Audio System which should give you some excellent sound quality.

Overall, I am really impressed with SOKP ROM as it packs a ton of features while speed and battery life is excellent. If you haven’t tried SOKP ROM yet and you are looking for a good custom ROM to play around this week(end), give this ROM a test drive and do let me know what you think! (But I have a feeling you will like it much.)

What is a Custom ROM?

A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.

With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.

How to Install Custom ROMs

First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.

Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!

Camera works well, the rom also works pretty fast (and has a ton of features) but the call and audio quality is really bad.

It installed without a hitch, everything works fine, what I want from a ROM is multi page home screen which is more than 5 and this ROM has it, camera is working tether is fine too, the only reason am still on Wicked ROM is because Viper4Android is not working right, I installed both version of FX without success, it doesnt gave me the deep bass on my Able Planet noise cancelling headphone , Max, am wondering if it just me having this issue, I really want to go up to 4.4.2 only if the Viper4Android works.

Awesome ROM. Fast, tons of fefeatures and stable. To get better call quality update to the NB4 modem and for better battery life install ktoonsez kernal. But overall one of the best KK ROMs out there!

  9. Santosh says:

Hi Jeff, ROM comes with inbuilt sound mod which is the best. But if you flash any third party sound mod it will destroy its sound quality. Reflash n use audiofx widget for tuning it. You will be amazed with sound quality.

    • Jeff says:

thanks for the reply, I reinstalled the ROM, play around with Audio FX setting but am not happy with d sound, I Installed the Viper4Android 2.3.3.0 version but am still disappointed, I couldnt get the deep bass and clarity , anyway , I will keep trying.

how is the battery life on the galaxy s4 gt i 9500 ?

  16. philip johnson says:

ROM is absolutely stellar. I cannot believe how it continues to impress. The visuals are absolutely stunning. The stability is the best I’ve had from multiple ROMs. It is built off the Google kit kat with every tweak imaginable and streamlined with perfection. I noticed a dramatic improvement in performance and battery life and cannot believe this ROM only has one review. Additionally I love the full screen keyboard size tweaker. I could go on and on but SOKP is hands down the best roM developer.

The best features compared to other ROMs include the phone notification style, the light customizations on the notification light, the multi window abilities, built in bloatware remover and app killer, sounds and boot screen, and my personal favorite the battery saver tweaks which include turning off the GPS Bluetooth and even 3g when the screen goes off.

I removed Google play services and Google play and downgraded maps and fgoogle search to previous versions and installed aptoid and Nine active sync email and my battery has been at 75% at the end of the day for three days with regular usage !!!!!!

    A+++++++

Only app that hasn’t worked is Waze and multi window takes a lot of getting used to and has a few bugs. And forgot to mention how amazing the screen brightness tweaker is for those who get annoyed with how limited the stock one is.

This is my favorite ROM so far, but i have a problem with AudioFX. The thing is, if i set the sound like i want for my headphones, the same settings apply to speakers also, making them sound like crap when my phone rings or i have other media in focus. There is no option in AudioFX to make changes to headphones OR speaker like others have. So the other bad news is that Viper4Android seems to fail in installing drivers. I’ve been trying everything for 3 days now without success. When i try to install v4a drivers, it says that the install was successfull and to reboot, but after rebooting there is no driver and Viper just keep looping in asking me to install the driver…. Please fix that.. All other ROMs that i have tried are compatible with V4A.
