For those of you who want to use your Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720 as a GSM worldphone, you can get your unlock SIM code from Sprint.com. Now, sometimes even with that, your phone may not work correctly, here’s how to manually unlock SIM on your Sprint Galaxy S4 so you can use use phone when traveling abroad.
For those of you who have been waiting to install custom ROM on your Verizon Galaxy S4 with ME7, ME7, MI1, MJ7, or MK2 firmware or AT&T Galaxy S4 with MF3, MK2, NB1, or NC1 firmware, there’s finally a new method using SafeStrap Recovery by XDA user Hashcode.
So if you’ve cracked your screen on a brand, new Galaxy S4 and feel miserable perhaps because you don’t even have insurance, there’s actually a way to replace the screen glass only.
Now, for this to work, you must have a broken screen ONLY, if your digitizer is not working, this method will not work! To test this out, see if you notice any cracks in the digitizer layer under the glass layer. Also, check to see if your touchscreen is working. If you only notice cracks on the outer glass layer and also your touchscreen is working fine, you can use this method to replace the glass only and revive your Galaxy S4 for just about $20 USD.
For those of you who have been waiting for App2SD functionality on your Galaxy S4 due to lack of app storage, we’ve got some great news for you. Samsung is rolling out new official firmware updates as we speak that supports App2Sd.
This means you won’t even need root to move all of your favorite apps to your microSD card.
For those of you who want to unlock SIM on your AT&T or T-Mobile Galaxy S4, there’s an easy way to unlock SIM as outlined by XDA user kaleido.
This should work on AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-i337, T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-M919, and also all Canadian SGH-i337M variants.
Remember, unlocking SIM is illegal in the U.S. as of this year, and that is why I cannot make a video tutorial but this method does work well, you can find full step-by-step tutorial at XDA here. However, it is not illegal to unlock your SIM if you are currently in another country other than the U.S. This law should change soon as it only benefits carriers not consumers.
In theory, since international LTE model GT-i9505 and T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 share the exact same hardware as AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-i337, it should be possible to install GT-i9505/T-Mobile custom ROMs on your AT&T Galaxy S4.
Well, I tried it today and it works just fine. You will need to install a custom kernel such as KTweaker kernel after installing ROM though to bypass the locked bootloader on your AT&T Galaxy S4.
Similar to the “AT&T Note 2 AWS MOD to enable T-Mobile AWS 3G/4G bands”, we can also do something similar with the AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-i337 or Canadian SGH-i337M.
What this will do?
You will be able to enable the AWS bands (which is the bands used by T-Mobile for 3G/4G HSPA+ service) on your AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-i337 (or Canadian SGH-i337M) and receive 3G/4G HSPA+ data when using T-Mobile SIM card (or other Canadian networks that support AWS).
For those of you with a rooted Galaxy S4, now you can easily install TWRP recovery using Goo Manager. And also those of you with locked bootloaders such as AT&T or Verizon, latest TWRP recovery can be installed (as they have been patched with LOKI).
Should work on most Galaxy S4 smartphones including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, MetroPCS, Cricket, GT-i9505, and Canadian S4s.
There’s some great news for AT&T or Verizon Galaxy S4 users, bootloader is not unlocked BUT we have LOKI method by XDA user DJrbliss that allows developers to bypass bootloader check to enable custom recoveries and custom ROMs.
