What is a Custom ROM?

A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.

With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.

How to Install Custom ROMs

First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.

Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!

Can I flash my galaxy s 4 AT&T SGH-i337 with another stock firmware like the international GT-i9500s’ and will my LTE still work??

I rooted my s4 (at&t i337) and deleted some bloatware (chaton, play books, play music). Apparently something that I deleted messed up my S Voice app. If i download the i337 firmware (above) and boot in clockworkmod recovery and flash that firmware, will it be back to normal? Meaning, will all the bloatware be back on it and hopefully fix my S Voice problem?

    Hi,

I have an AT&T Galaxy S 4 and I am switching to T Mobile soon. I would like to have all of the features that T Mobile has such as Wi-Fi calling and full connectivity with all of their bands. However, I would also like unlimited tethering if at all possible.

If I flash my phone with T-Mobile’s firmware, will my phone be the same as a T-Mobile Galaxy S 4?
Will I be able to have unlimited tethering if I simply root my phone, or do I need a different tethering app to bypass T-Mobile’s tethering cap?
