Surprisingly, Samsung has update the Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 with latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop stock firmware. Although their usual software support stops at around 2 years or so it seems has Samsung has decided to lengthen the updates a bit more.
Currently the Android 5.0.1 TouchWiz Lollipop stock firmwares are available for many international Galaxy S4 with GT-i9505, mostly in the European countries. You can download all GT-i9505 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop stock firmwares here.
This means that Lollipop is also coming for all other variants of the Galaxy S4 including GT-i9500 and the U.S. variants. The root method has not changed though, so you can still use our root guide to root your Galaxy S4.
Note – If you don’t see firmware listed for your country, you can still flash another country/carrier firmware so long as you have GT-i9505.
What is a Custom ROM?
A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.
With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.
How to Install Custom ROMs
