GT-i9505 Kernel Root Fix!

For those of you having trouble getting full root using CWM or TWRP root method on the GT-i9505, this is most likely caused by SetUID in the kernel.

To fix this issue, you can install any custom kernel after installing CWM or TWRP.

I do recommend installing Adam kernel by XDA user Wanam, as it’s stock-like yet should gives you better performance/battery life over stock.

Download Adam Kernel for GT-i9505 (You can install this using CWM or TWRP recovery)

I have a problem which seems to be quite difficult to solve. I updated the software on my Galaxy S4 via OTA soon after I bought the phone, and now I want to root the phone and install a new ROM, but it does not seem to be possible. I cannot root the phone by any of the methods listed on this site. The CWM, ODIN method fails, and so does the MotoChopper method. I understand that the problem is due to the fact that the kernel has setUID restrictions, but if I cannot install CWM, how can I install a new kernel to fix this problem?

When you are in ODIN, uncheck reboot.

Flash CWM, and DO NOT Reboot your phone. Rebooting normally causes CWM to not be intalled.
When ODIN says success, pull out the usb cable and the battery.

Then when you put the battery back in, volume down, home, and power, and wait for the blue text in the upper left hand to show up and let go of the power button. Then CWM will be installed.

    Hey Max,

After flushing the kernel, I can’t use my power button to turn off my display, i can use it to reboot and all but turn off display doesn’t work.. Any workaround for this?… thanx

I just want to say THANK YOU for this fix ^ recommending AdamKernel. I’ve got a GTi9505… was trying TWRP and CWM methods, but none seemed to give me full root access.

This suggestion of using CWM first, then reflashing Adam kernel FINALLY worked for me. I have full root access now! Thanks Max and thanks NeilTDavid :)

Dropped my AnTuTu scores from 24000 to 20000 and the superSU app doesn’t even show up in my drawer, am I doing something wrong here?
