For this week’s Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720 ROM of the week, check out a brand, new custom ROM called Antigen ROM by recognized XDA user Venum (who’s been making some excellent custom ROMs for Sprint Android devices for last couple years).
His latest creation Antigen ROM is based on Sprint MF9 firmware (so you get App2SD and HDR camera) along with a custom Antigen theme and features.
Some notable features include Focal camera, continuous app drawer/launcher, hacked hotspot, and performance boosts including sd card, internet, and signal. You will also find nice loud-volume mod, which increases your speaker sound dramatically. Antigen ROM also includes custom icons, wallpapers, and ringtones/alarms/notifications.
As for CPU performance, Antigen ROM does ship with KTweaker kernel/app so you can easily overclock up to 2.3Ghz (although I recommend maximum of 2.1Ghz).
Overall, Antigen ROM is a very solid, stable daily-driving ROM that’s going to have many features with future updates. If you are looking for a new Android 4.2.2 TouchWiz-based custom ROM, definitely give this one a try and do let me know what you think!
To install, reboot into recovery, make a backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, and reboot. For general installation tutorial, see our custom ROM installation guide.
What is a Custom ROM?
A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.
With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.
How to Install Custom ROMs
First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.
Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!
