For this week’s Sprint Galaxy S4 ROM of the Week, check out SuperS4 ROM by XDA user G_ding84.

You will also get hotspot working out of the box along with two cameras.  (You can get additional Google Camera from Play Store to make it THREE!)  You can easily add additional features with Xposed apps it comes with including enable S5 System Settings UI, customize your UI with Wanam Xposed, and more.)

SuperS4 ROM also comes with KTweaker kernel allow you to overclock up to 2.3Ghz for hard-core gaming (but I only recommend up to 2.1 or 2.2Ghz for stability).   That’s another notch on top of an excellent, fast-performing custom ROM.  So, definitely give SuperS4 ROM a try this weekend as it will definitely supercharge your Sprint S4 and do let me know what you think!

No Gapps required (comes with it!)

To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)

A: Try formatting /system and re-install ROM, sometimes the system partition gets corrupt and you may have to try 2 or 3 times before the ROM boots.

What is a Custom ROM?

A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.

With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.

How to Install Custom ROMs

First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.

Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!

How did you get this to work on your S4? I installed it and wi-fi would not turn on!!

    • Max Lee says:

      On sprint S4 right?

      • Justin says:

Yes. I have Sprint Galaxy S4. I tried installing it in recovery mode and it said installation aborted. And then I rebooted, thinking it would’ve worked. But wifi would not turn on. So I had to restore to stock.

        • Max Lee says:

Well next time try to get the error message, otherwise hard for me to help you but I think it might have been a bad file.

          • Justin says:

You think it was because I downloaded it from my phone? Never tried that before. I’ve always downloaded on my pc. Never had problems. Thanks man.

            • Max Lee says:

Most likely, you can double-check that the zip file is good or bad by simply opening up with ES File Explorer. If it opens, it’s fine, if you get errors, it’s a bad file.

Hello, if I intall the S4 ROM
IM gona lost all my APP ,contacts, etc ?

    • Max Lee says:

You can try doing an install without factory reset but also make a backup ROM beforehand. It should work fine as this ROM is based off stock firmware.

    • Rob Man says:

Your apps should be available for re download in the Play store under “my apps”. If you installed them from a APK file then reinstall those files
You can use an app to backup your contacts, texts etc. to your external sdcard.
If you use G+, you can backup your contacts to google and when you sign in they will load to your phone.

    • Rob Man says:

My question is, Does this support Apps2SD? It seems that feature has disappeared since KitKat was released.

  3. Bobby says:

Great Rom!!! Just one issue Max, every time I try to use hotspot I am getting an error message and asking me to subscribe my sprint hotspot. Any help please…

  4. Bobby says:

  5. kvoscia says:

I can not get this ROM to install. The error I am given is:

    Set_perm:some changes failed.
    E:error in storage/sdcard1/super_s4…
    (Status7)
    Installation aborted.
Did I end up with a bad file or something? Feedback word be appreciated.

  6. Oscar says:

Hey max, So I tried downloading the file twice and did the whole wiping maybe 20 times and tried reinstalling the rom 20 times. The rom will not go pass the ANDROID screen. It seems to install just fine. But it wont go past the boot screen. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

  10. Pete says:

I tried to install and got “status 7 error” also. When I I tried to restore to my backup(cwm) that I just made before it said unable to restore” MD5 mismatch”. Not sure what I did but WOW…. 2 hours later I finally got back to STOCK no root! I thought I was pretty good at installing custom roms but I guess not so much,LOL!!!!!!

  11. Justin says:

I don’t know what it is but this rom is making my phone crash and reboot constantly. Any idea what it could be?

  12. Joan Calderon says:

Hey Max, after installing i get the feeling of fast discharging. I used to get a full day and now i get at least 8 hours. Other thing is that i am runnign low on space eventhough all my pics and vids are on external SD. and lastly, i keep having a message when rebooting. it is a KERNEL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING, Set warranty bit : Kernel.

    Thanks!!

    • Max Lee says:

Hmmm Set warranty bit is normal btw, check your storage level on internal storage though, that’s what I think it’s pointing to.

  13. Rocky says:

HI Max, like another user’s, my phone seems to be overcharging overnight. I wake up with the screen turned off and an LED blinking. The screen won’t wake and the phone has to be shut down via the power button and then turned back on again, after which batter shows 100% charged. Any ideas? I will try to uninstall the battery monitor agent and see if this changes anything but I suspect something more sinister is abreast,

  14. Sean says:

Hey, I installed this ROM (using Clockwork Mod) on a Sprint S4 that uses Voyager Mobile as the MVNO. After installing this ROM I did not increase the cpu speed.

The thing I really like is the hotspot, but a couple of issues came up. First, when I turn the phone on I get a message “KERNEL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING” (in red text) and “Set Warranty Bit : Kernel” (in yellow text). What is the purpose of this–is it indicating a problem with the ROM?

Second, I occasionally lose the mobile signal, and in order to restore it I need to restart the phone. If I turn on “airplane mode” it will not go into full airplane mode and I cannot get it out of airplane mode. Once I do a full restart I will get the cell signal back.

Third, I get occasional software update downloads, and when I go to install the download, it will shut down and restart, and it automatically boots into recovery mode. It asks whether I wish to “install untrusted zip”, I select yes, then I get another recovery page that says “Root access possibly lost. Fix?” I select “Yes – Fix root”, then hit the power button, and it restarts. However, I do not know if the software update(s) were installed.

This is a great site that has helped me understand the workings of rooting the S4 and installing custom ROMs. I would really appreciate advice on this. I do not mind installing a different ROM if that will prevent the issues I just identified (the only thing I am really looking for is a hotspot). Thanks in advance for your help.

I have an SPH-l720 running NAE. I can’t get this rom to connect to the network. I get no mobile data? What can I do? Also are there any other ROMS that I can use other than Negalite?? Please help

  16. zack miller says:

This is one of the worst roms i’ve ever downloaded, hotspot doesn’t work, crashes randomly, YouTube glitches out, my bars will just randomly drop to zero and i have to restart! It absolutely sucks!

  17. travis says:

How do I install the update that automatically downloads with this or the stock ROM? With TWRP or Clockwork the update will not install. It just keeps saying update is downloaded and ready to install. The easiest answer to this question would be what file does the update download to? I could install it if I could find it.

will this work on the new 720T with AO3 build?
