I know many of you have been e-mailing me to death asking about MF9 update on the Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720. Well, I don’t recommend any OTA updates once you root but wait for custom ROMs such as this TriForce ROM, which comes with the update and also without the bloatware by the same developer UnknownForce who made the Force ROM.

With latest MF9 update you will get new features like App2SD working out of the box and HDR recording. TriForce ROM also comes with some cool features like call-recording, native hotspot working, and even Viper4Android sound mod so you can tweak your speakers/headphones with ease.  And my very favorite feature is the awesome transition animations.

You will also have the option to kill apps by doing a long-press on the Menu button, very handy to have on those faulty apps that freeze out of nowhere.

Overall, TriForce ROM is a very good way of getting the latest MF9 Sprint firmware update without losing root while gaining vital features your phone needs. So, definitely give this ROM a try this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

What’s the problem? If you have bootloop, try wiping /system under Wipe->Advanced and reinstall ROM.

the XDA download worked. so far the ROM is great I like it alot. Battery life doesn’t seem all that great though. Does anyone know if the pre-loaded governors work? It doesn’t seem like they do but I could be wrong or just not applying them correctly. I’ve rooted every phone I’ve had but get over my head quickly after that.

I did a system restore/data wipe, formated cache and dalvik cache and then installed and it went through. So far loving it.

App2SD does work with some apps but some that previously worked with my rooted Photon running CM10 do not transfer to the SD card. It will free up some space however. Definitely one of the better roms I’ve flashed in since i’ve been doing it the last couple of years. So far I haven’t found anything that doesn’t work.

so you used TWRP and the zip from XDA?
should i wipe and do a factory reset before flashing?

i thought we need the custom recovery.

does anyone know how to get the stock calendar widget back? I’ve searched and can’t come up with anything other than your typical app store calendars which some are fine I just like the Samsung stock one with the S4.

Is anybody having random shutdowns, i finally was able to root my SPH-L720 but it restarts on its own, i am not using any app in particular it just happens here and there, any reason why that would happen Max…

Hi I downloaded the rom and everything is working good so far. My only issue is that my software and baseband still say mdl. Did I do something wrong?? I thought this would take care of everything?? Please help

Mine also still says mdc… is that ok? Does that mean I don’t have the MF9 installed? I also installed the 3.1v update. Not sure why this is going on. Anyone know why?

I’m having the random shutdown problem too. I can’t seem to find any pattern to it. Sometimes I can recover from it by holding the power button and the phone will come back without rebooting.

I was working fine until after I upgraded to TriForce 3.1. It started shutting down and rebooting for no reason.

I reinstalled the update; We’ll see how it goes.

Well, it did help reinstalling the update but only a little.
I noticed that mine would lose sound prior to shutting down, sometime I could get it back before and it wouldn’t reboot. So, I figured it must be something to with the sound. I configured the ViPER4Android FX and XHiFi settings and it totally cured the sound issue.
The rebooting issue has gone away.
However, I was on a phone call yesterday and it lost display; I could not do anything but talk until I forced it to reboot with the power button.
Today I remembered that I did not Wipe Cache Partition, Dalvik cache, and Fix Permissions.
I did that and fingers crossed, I hope that fixes the issue.

        To be continued………

I too am having the shutdown issues sometimes twice in a 24 hours. Did try and upgrade to TriForce 3.1 and it ran 30 hours before it shutdown, but now its back to a couple of time a day. I thought it was caused by installing a 3rd part launcher but removed and and cleared cache but still not any better. Might have to go back to the stock sprint/sansung firmware. Any ideas would be great, just a basic set of apps on the phone.

I was having lock ups and reboots very often 4-5 times a day.

I was able to drastically reduce the frequency by setting up Viper4Anroid FX, and ViPER4Android XHiFi sound settings.
I was clued in because I noticed that if I would lose the phone sounds and it would reboot shortly after if I continued using the phone.

I am still getting occasional reboots, I have had one in the last 36 hours. It wasn’t a reboot though. I lost video while on a phone call and had force it to reboot myself.

I also noticed that if I restore certain Apps+Data from Titanium Backup it causes this but have been able to uninstall them and just restore the App alone(You always have to be careful when restoring App+Data)

FYI: My battery usage also seems worse with 3.1

I had less trouble with TriForce 3.0, before I upgraded.

I went back to 3.0 but it seems that doesn’t help.

Mine did too. I am not sure what I did to fix it but I know for mine that if I move the app to SD AFTER I create a shortcut from the home screen it will cause the shortcut freak out.

Here’s a real abbreviation of what I have done.
Installed TriForce 3.0 (didn’t have ANY issues but updated to 3.1 THEN I had issues)
Reflashed 3.0 hoping to relive the past; No luck
Played around with KT Tweaker and the ViPER4Android helped. Some
I flashed the Google PLay ROM and AGAT kernal, I wasn’t able to restore my contacts so, I flashed back to Tri Force 3.0
So far all is well, just don’t create a shortcut until after you move the apps

Reboot issues…. The following while a little drawn out (with probably many typos) is what worked for me to get this ROM working (so far) with no rebott issue.
I installed Tri Force(TF) 3.0, set it up and ran it with no reboot issue but the apps were freaking out after I moved them to SD. SO…
I updated to TF 3.1. Mistake, not only did the App2SD continue to freak out but random reboots started. I was not happy SO…
I played around with the ViPER4Android setting and set KT Tweaker to defaults, That Helped but only as for the number of reboots. Of course it rebooted at the most inconvienent times.
Then I decided to give the GooglePLAY rom of the week a try.
I installed it along with AGAT Kernal. I really really like the ROM but It wouldn’t bring in my contacts and I lost Apps2SD.
So, I reinstalled Tri Force 3.0… Everything was working great UNTIL….. I installed a customer wallpaper on the lock screen, then I got random reboots.
I replaced the lock screen wallpaper with a stock one and Voila! No reboots since, It’s been about 36 hours.

I also used the default installation of TF 3.0.

This is what worked for mine and may just be a freak coincidence, I dunno. Im not a Developer.

Rob Man u the man…… Had the same problem of rebooting with a custom wallpaper on the lock screen, remove the custom wallpaper and replaced with stock and its been good since even though its only been a few hours, will keep an eye on this to see if it holds up.

OK, it’s been 6 days since I took the customer wallpaper off my lock screen and…

Still NO random reboots; Not one

      So, Happy! Happy! Happy!

I’ve been using this ROM now for about a week and I have to say it’s a decent ROM. Love the transitions, very smooth. The Aroma installer is excellent, love that I am able to customize from there. There are little things that kind of annoyed me such as not being able to put text on the lockscreen but other than that If I had to rate this ROM between 1(one) and 5(five) I would give it a 4.

You can put text on the lock-screen (although, the number of characters is quite limited). Menu -> Settings -> My Device -> Lock Screen -> Lock Screen Widgets -> Edit Personal Information. I’m able to fit my name in there, which meets my needs.

I cannot get anything to display on the lock screen either. Even 3 letter words.
Not a big deal to me but, it isn’t working for some reason.

Wouldn’t install via CWM on Root MF9 Firmware. Followed these instructions to no avail. I also tried other additional steps and it stalls and says ….3.0..zip (bad). Installation Failed. (Right after it begins). I tried on external SD and internal. I’m trying the instructions from UnknownForce on xda right now. Will post results :).

I had a bad file and had to redownload it the first time. I put the file on the phone to install it then moved it to the ext SD after.
I also had to format my ext. SD via PC to FAT32.
If you downloaded it directly to your phone; I would recommend to DL it to your PC then move it to your phone.

Also, be sure not to open the .zip file

I’m getting the following error after wiping everything:
    “file_getprop failed to stat
    /tmp/aroma/soundboost.prop”

The installer finishes and says things were successful other than that error message and the system goes into a bootloop without any way of coming out of it from wiping delv to cache. I have tried this now over 10 times with cleaning everything and I still get this error and fall back into the bootloop.

Please help with any ideas you guys may have as I have been phoneless for 2 days now bc of this.
