Need call recording? Don’t like TouchWiz and bloatware? Want some UI customization? Need support for all languages?

If you’ve answered yes to all of these questions, check out the FoxHound ROM for Galaxy S4!

Based on GT-i9505 base, the FoxHound ROM can be installed on GT-i9505, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Canadian Galaxy S4 smartphones. (For T-Mobile, you will lose wifi-calling!)

For those of you who’ve followed custom ROMs previously on the Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 Galaxy S3 GT-i9300, you will remember FoxHound ROM was one of the fastest/best ROMs ever.

Well, the developer of FoxHound ROM XDA user Raffaele88 has picked up a GT-i9505 to continue his awesomeness into custom ROMing.

His latest creation of the FoxHound ROM for Galaxy S4 comes with call recording, UI customizations through Nottach Xposed app, Xposed App Settings (For running apps in Phone/Tablet mode), inverted Play Store with multi DPI support, Init.d support, and Nova launcher in replacement of TouchWiz launcher.

Of course, you will also benefit from complete de-bloating of most Samsung apps while you will be able to keep core functions such as multi-window, Smart Scroll, etc…etc…

FoxHound ROM has been around for ages and if you own a GS4 that can install this ROM, you are in luck!

What is a Custom ROM?

A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.

With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.

How to Install Custom ROMs

First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.

Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!

This will sound a very stupid question. I loved foxhound with my S3, and would like to install this on my S4 as well. Just want to confirm, will this remove all the air gestures and smart features of the s4 ?

  7. scsinc says:

    No, it doesn’t.

  8. Jamal carter says:

I’m using Twrp, I have flashed 0.2, installed ktweaker kernel for AT&T and gapps, it successfully flashes but after the Samsung custom boot screen with the lock my phone goes black. Anything I’m doing wrong?

  9. Jamal Carter says:

It’s still doing the same thing. Different kernel maybe? Cause it’s an AOSP kernel also

  10. xitar says:

Could you tell me if this works for i 9500 too?

  11. Clare says:

Anyone know if it will work on VZW’s version of the phone, the SCH i545?
    Thanks!

  12. Jamal says:

No matter what I try for AT&T S4 I always get system software not authorized by AT&T then kernel error in the top left corner.. Help please 🙁 safootball32@yahoo.com is my email!

  13. xitar says:

  16. Glenn says:

Anyone else having issues with Wifi? Mine keeps turning off immediately after I hit the switch to turn it on. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

  17. Joe says:

I get the same problem with wifi, without a fix this rom is completely useless!

  18. Joe says:

After the update to 0.4 I get the same wifi problem, without a fix this rom becomes useless.

  19. Joe says:

So if you update to 0.4 you get no wifi but if you stay on 0.1 you do have wifi although 0.4 looks alot better and seems smoother. So if you want to keep wifi then stay on 0.1 do NOT update but if you dont care about wifi then I recommend updating to 0.4.

  20. kamikazi says:

    why no i9500 roms?:(

  21. Sonny says:

After testing update to ver 0.5, the WiFi is still not working

    • Matt says:

Flash this modem with mobile Odin (doesn’t seem to work when I tried flashing with regular odin) and that will fix the WiFi issue

  22. logan russell says:

I flashed this on my ATT GS4 with the TW Kernel and everything is working great, but i cant get any cellular data working.

  23. Jeremy Neufeld says:

I just installed 0.6 and am having no difficulty with WiFi. I kept getting errors that NFC Payment had stopped however since I don’t use NFC I just turned it off and so far from what I can tell it’s working great.

  24. Darrell says:

Ne1 any ideas how I can get the stock keyboard back? Hate the keyboard u get with this ROM

  25. Sunny says:

By far the best and fastest rom I have used so far. I am on the latest version (0.7) on my Canadian S4. This rom has it all. Highly recommended by me.I have used it for 1 week now, no issues, bugs, or glitches detected.

  26. Manoj says:

Will this work for AT&T’s model of the GS4?

    • Jamal says:

Yes, run a TW ATT kernel like KTweaker… It’s what I run

      • Manoj says:

Thanks man!! I installed the AOSP kernel by mistake and it bricked my phone. Then I had to unbrick using ODIN. Now I reflashed foxhound after flashing the TW kernel this time. It seems to be working. Thanks again Jamal!

  27. Manoj says:

HELP! AT&T LTE is NOT WORKING!!

So while I was flashing v0.8 of this rom it asked me if I wanted to flash one of the 4 kernels it came with. I selected one version of KTweaker. Then after the rom completed (I’m assuming it flashed a kernel), I flashed a version of KTweaker again just to be safe.

Should I just reflash and only flash one of the kernels that comes packaged in the rom?

  28. Ali says:

Hi – will this work on the international S4? I’m guessing it does as it’s an I9505 (baseband is I9505XXUAMDD) but this is my first android phone having moved from iPhone and I don’t want to screw it up with my first mod. Total noob!

Also, what kernel should I be installing?

    Thanks

    • Robert says:

Yes, I just flashed this on my GT-i9505 using TWRP. Works perfectly, as with some other ROMs you need to manually type in the APN. I chose the Faux kernel, as discussed in the XDA forums.

  29. matt says:

I installed foxhound 0.9 with faux kernel. I don’t see the over clocking past 1890mhz

  30. mike says:

So I really love this rom but everytime I try to OTA to version .9 I get a download ?wpfb_dl=7 and it wont let let me install. Im on the sgh-i337 running faux123 3.4.0, Please help D:

    • meyns says:

This keeps happening to me as well on my SGH-i337m. Everytime I try to download the update it shows the download pop up and then it asks me if I want to reboot and install. When I hit OK it puts me into TWRP recovery mode and there is no installation file for Foxhound,.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

      Thanks!

      • Jeremy Neufeld says:

In TWRP you will need to navigate to the location you downloaded the ROM then select it. The default location is /mnt/sdcard/FoxHound_Update/

        • meyns says:

Wow thanks for the quick reply, but I checked that path and the folder is there but the file isnt for some reason. I think the initial prompt that asks me to reboot and install through TWRP comes up before the file even downloads. Is it possible to just download the update file from my comp and then put the file on my SD card and then install it? If so could someone post a link where I could grab it??

          Thanks!

          • mike says:

I’m doing it through cwm BTW haha but the reason you can’t see it is cause its not zip. But I zip it and tried and just errors out :/

            • matt says:

Instead of zipping it have you tried changing the extension of the file you downloaded to. Zip?

            • meyns says:

I see that extension isnt a zip file but also when I look at the properties the size is only 250kb so im sure its not really downloading anything and changing the file name probably wont do anything either. I’ve been searching all over the net for a solution but can’t find anything. As a workaround I found a download link for 0.7 and I updated to that, but as it stands right now I can’t find the 0.9 update. The 0.7 version still wont let me update to 0.9 either!

        • mike says:

          What version are you at?

      • Max Lee says:

Try installing CWM, I’ve had some problems with TWRP before.

  31. Jeremy Neufeld says:

Yes, you can download from your computer and transfer it over. Point TWRP to whichever folder you dropped the file into and you should be good to go. I just did exactly this yesterday. You can download version 1.3 at http://www.foxhoundrom.net/?p=522.

  32. mike says:

little help android master max lee

  33. Asad says:

    Hi

Please can you help, this ROM looks really good, but having issues with the installation and bootup and Restarts.

I have tried three different kernels and the phone will work and boot but once the device is restarted it then gets stuck on the boot logo.

once it did work using the Adam kernel then the play store wouldnt download any of the apps after a while thats when i restarted and then got stuck on the boot logo

  34. Matt says:

That has happened to me before using a different ROM. I didn’t find a fix other than to re download the ROM again and flash it which worked for me

  35. Mike says:

So I really need help on this one max or anyone that could help or throw me in the right direction, but I have been using kt tweaker provide from here but when I use a updated version or another kernel that for my carrier (att) I get this “system software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone”. Any help is much appreciated 🙂

  36. Rob says:

When I try to install the zip in CWM it says cant open file (bad)
I have tried several times with a different download, anyone see this happen before?

    • Robert says:

The download for version 1.5 has been fixed. For any programs with e-mail (not g-mail), look in the OTA for the fix and flash the file. Thanks

  37. Billy L says:

Hello, I really need help with my GS4, it’s an sgh-i337m model and I flashed the Foxhound Rom, when I get to choose the kernel I’ve chosen the Adam Kernel, the Google Kernel and NO Kernel. In all 3 situations I get stuck on the boot google (or foxhound) bootlogo. And that’s it, I can`t do anything else or get it to work. If anyone could please help me it’ll be very much appreciated as I have no idea what to do anymore. So, please, HELP!

  38. jak says:

i have the sgh-m919 and when i installed the rom and did the first reboot..the phone got stuck on the samsung logo .

    some one respond to me!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Rob says:

Presumably, in recovery mode u wiped the 1) cache 2) dalvek cache 3) factory reset/data, and u are now stuck?
And if you’ve tried pulling the battery, waiting s minute and then rebooting. Then perhaps you habe a problem with the version of your recovery program. I’m using ClockworkMod latest version w no problems on the GT-I9505 International version.

  39. MrDreamers says:

will it work on my t-mob sgh-m919 s4 mdl??
