For this week’s ROM of the week, check out Infamous S4 ROM for Galaxy S4.
Based on latest T-Mobile Android 4.2.2 firmware, Infamous S4 ROM comes with WiFi-Calling (for T-Mobile users) and can be installed on AT&T, T-Mobile, GT-i9505, and Canadian Galaxy S4s.
Now since this is a T-Mobile firmware-based ROM, there’s no App2SD nor HDR recording available as latest T-Mobile does not have that update yet. (If you need App2SD, you can try any of the latest GT-i9505 ROMs instead like BobCat ROM.)
Developed by renowned developer Jamison904, Infamous S4 ROM is his latest work with the Galaxy S4 series featuring AROMA graphical installer with ability for user to choose their own carrier, kernels, and apps (so you can easily remove/install only the apps you want).
The Infamous S4 ROM does come with support for 3Minit app (with 3Minit framework) that will allow you to fully customize your UI such as change battery icons, 4G LTE icons, battery styles, etc…etc… You can either buy 3Minit app (like I did and support the developers) or you can also download the free version on XDA.
You get two fully-working cameras on this ROM, regular S4 camera along with latest Android 4.3 PhotoSphere camera.
What is a Custom ROM?
A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.
With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.
How to Install Custom ROMs
First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.
Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!
