For those of you who want to turn your Galaxy S4 into a Google Phone (that’s going to be released soon), you can try the latest PACMan ROM. Currently PACMan ROM is available for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Canadian, and GT-i9505 Qualcomm variants.
What is PACMan ROM?
For those of you who don’t know, PACMan ROM is an AOSP ROM (What is AOSP?) featuring a mix of 3 ROMs: CyanogenMod 10.1, AOKP, and ParanoidAndroid ROMs. It’s basically a “hybrid” ROM that brings you the best of all three ROMs into one ROM.
The latest PACMan ROM also ships with ParanoidAndroid’s latest HALO floating notification/multi-tasking feature, something that’s not even available on regular Google OS. On top of that, you will find full AOKP ROM Control Settings and ParanoidAndroid Hybrid Settings that allow you to fully customize your UI to your liking and also run your favorite apps in custom DPI (Phone or Tablet mode).
Overall, PACMan ROM represents the bleeding edge of Android OS with all of the latest custom ROM features built into one ROM. Of course, mileage may vary and there may sometimes be bugs still but hey, you can’t get better than this.
Note that since this is an AOSP ROM, you will lose all Samsung features like multi-window, Samsung camera, Smart Scroll/Stay, etc…etc…
This isn’t a ROM for the everyday user but for those of you hardcore Android addicts who want to run pure Google Android OS.
If this is something you want, definitely flash it this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

To install, reboot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset (unless coming from ParanoidAndroid ROM), install ROM, install Gapps, and reboot.
If you end up in a bootloop, you can try rebooting into recovery, go to Mounts & Storage, format /system and format /data, and re-install ROM, gapps, and reboot. (Only if you end up in a bootloop after installing.)
For general installation tutorial, see our custom ROM installation guide.
What is a Custom ROM?
A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.
With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.
How to Install Custom ROMs
First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.
Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!
