If you are looking for a good TouchWiz Android 4.2.2 ROM with absence of Samsung bloatware and  faster performance/longer battery life, definitely check out Wicked ROM for T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-M919.

You can also install this ROM on GT-i9505, AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-i337, or Canadian Galaxy S4 SGH-i337M.

Some notable features on the Wicked ROM feature transparent multi-window flashbar (with all app support if you flash the all apps zip), custom boot animations, battery/network/performance/MMS tweaks, transparent weather widget, ad blocking, wifi-calling and some more.

Based on M919UVUAMDL, Wicked ROM will surely give you that completely de-bloated/de-Samsungnized feel some of you might want. Also, if you need to bloatware, you can always re-install them using the zip files.

If de-bloated performance is what you are looking for, definitely give the Wicked ROM a try this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

What is a Custom ROM?

A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.

With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.

How to Install Custom ROMs

First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.

Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!

Just had one question, will installing this ROM remove all the other S4 features such as Air View, Motions and gestures and camera features?

  2. Bobo says:

Everything works flawless. Thank you Max

  3. Davie Jones says:

Does NOT work for ATT. My provides is not T-Mobile and I have an invalid SIM.

Struggled a little bit with the TWRP install, but once it got going – PERFECT! Just what I wanted! Get’s rid of all the unwanted crap without losing any of the major stuff (i.e: Air View, Smart Scroll etc….), with the added bonus that there’s a V10 under the hood – goes like stink! Would’ve like to have seen a few extra customization tweaks though, but that said, it’s gonna take a pretty good custom ROM for me to switch! Well done to the WICKED crew for making such a WICKED ROM! Looking forward to the updates 🙂

I just installed Wicked and have to agree. I have NOT installed any of the bloatware packages. Phone goes like a raped ape. Battery life is Wicked good now…Just re-installed Google maps for navigation and Watch on from Play Google…works fine! Samsung wants you to “believe” all that bloatware is their idea and creation….Wrong! My S4 M919 – MDL was really stubborn at first..had to install the User ID removal tool using Odin 3.07. After that, TWRP worked great and the install was a cinch. Wallpapers are super cool compared to stock..sounds etc are cleaner too…different ring tones, the animated boot screen and the evil eye shut down screen…so cool. Here is the link to the stock mdl kernel with id removed.

      • mjIII says:

and fyi be sure to do a complete wipe and reset once your root (TWRP or CWM) is working…then install Wicked..
got that? install odin on your pc…use odin to install stock kernel with id removed….install twrp or cwm…do a complete back up….wipe and reset …install rom…in that order…the M919 are stubborn little buggers…but once unlocked…flawless.

  5. Nichelle says:

I flashed the wicked rom on my phone and now I can’t connect to the internet

  6. JohnA says:

Ive tried installing version 3, but it just stays on the galaxy S4 white on black screen. I just had to restore my backup and tried it and repeated the process a few times, but to no avail. Any ideas why its not working for me? I have the GT 19505 version in Ireland. I have already installed the Foxhound rom successfully but I found alot of the apps are force closing on me, like Nova launcher and Whatsapp

    • Max Lee says:

Did you do a factory reset when installing?

      • JohnA says:

I did. I tried it again, and I also tried it with version 2. The last thing I see, are the lines: “This may take a few minutes. Being evil isn’t easy”. Then the screen goes black and the Samsung Galaxy name comes back on the black screen and nothing else happens. I have to pull the battery and then get back into TWRP recovery.

I love your site and vids btw. Its been my ‘go to’ site since getting the S4.

        • Den.D says:

did you own a custom ROM before 1st time flashing with wicked? Cuz one of the options to end up in the situation you’re in.

        • xGSR says:

OMG i have the same problem!
Figure out what was wrong? i’m CURIOUS!!

          • Nathan says:

What variant are you running. If you are running anything besides i9505 or i337m or tmobile, you probably need to flash loki doki. That fixed mine.

  7. wayne says:

Hi max I have flashed this rom with no worry on my GT-i9505… BUT….. I am unable to select a ringtone in the sound settings it says “Unknown Ringtone” and when I select it it says “Android.process.media has stopped”. Any help would be much appreciated

  8. Pedro Estima says:

    Max,
    please help me I`m desperate!!!!!

I rooted my i9505 and tried to flash with the WICKED Rom but now my phone is stucked on the power up screen where it says Samsung Galaxy S4 – GT-I9505

Even when I try to enter recovery mode, it turns off, vibrate and turns on again and stay frozen.

What can I do, please help!

    • Max Lee says:

Try the buttons again, if you do it right it should enter recovery and don’t panic!

      • Pedro Estima says:

Thank god the button worked. Now I`m trying AOKP ROM.

        Also didn`t work.

It says unable to mount /system unable to mount /efs and unable to mount /preload

        What should I do?

        • Max Lee says:

Are you using TWRP or CWM? Try using CWM if you are having trouble with TWRP.

          • Den.D says:

same story imo. Did you flash Wicked onto a rooted custom ROM?

            • Pedro Estima says:

No, I flashed on a rooted device but with it`s original ROM from Vivo, a brazilian carrier.

              • xGSR says:

                i’m having the same problem.
                .. figure out what’s wrong? =\

                • mbehm says:

Anyone else softbricking their phones trying to install this rom and being unable to mount /system here’s how you can fix it.

Install TRWP if you don’t have it already.
Advanced > Terminal Command > Go
                  make_ext4fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p16
After that you should be able to do a full wipe and install stock/another rom :).

If anybody knows some tweaks to the make_ext4fs command that should be used please let me know.

AT&T SGH-1337: Rooted phone using motochop, then installed TWRP using GooManager. Installed Wicked ROM (based on the download provided in this post) using GooManager. Once completed, phone reboots, and I receive the AT&T Unauthorized Software message.

I really want to get the Wicked ROM installed on my phone. What should I do from here?

  18. Iverson says:

Hey Max, I have an unlocked i337. Can I install a t-mobile version rom on it so the phone would be more geared for t-mobiles network?I basically want to transform it into a t-mobile phone. Please let me know. Thanks

Hey Max, is there a way to get a a t-mobile rom on a an att i337 s4. Would it run as if it was a t-mobile s4 with wifi calling and picking up their network?

  20. josh says:

hey max, i just installed wicked everything works fine but im unable to connect to kies
    any help?

    • Richard says:

Kies is the worst piece of software ever written.

The only thing that MIGHT work to correct your issue is to run the Kies Connection Troubleshooter. All the troubleshooter will do is re-install the driver for your phone. If you do run the troubleshooter, make sure you reboot your PC when it’s done (before you try to re-connect your phone using Kies again). If that doesn’t work, I have also heard you can un-install Kies, reboot, and re-install Kies. After that, when you run Kies for the first time, go to preferfences, update, and uncheck the notify box. Then close Kies, and re-open it, and try to connect your phone.

      Hope this helps.

  21. joe says:

hey i did all that you showed in your tutorials at the att version works but when you reboot its like gone

  22. Frank says:

i follwed your steps but when i reboot, its like bricked and i have to like boot in recovery and reinstall everything after a wipe but it always repeats.

  23. Chris says:

Installed and running smooth as silk, except for one thing. My SGH-M919 will not connect to 4GLTE now.
    Other than that, most excellent.

  24. Rob says:

Similar to others, my GT-i9505 freezes during the flashing using TWRP after using advanced wipes (2 caches & data) and a Factory Reset. Has anybody managed to install this ROM on the international version? Perhaps Max it only works on T-Mobile phones. At XDA development the only discussion there is for T-Mobile users.

Max what’s the “trick” to install on the international version, please?

    Thanks!

    • Wayne says:

Just keep trying I myself have a GT-i9505 and it took a few attempts the install this rom but I eventually got it to install and it works fine for me

    • Max Lee says:

That’s just a TWRP bug, if you have trouble, try using CWM recovery instead.

  25. Hector says:

Does anyone know how to get the wifi messages and calling to work?

  33. Nems says:

Seems like a great Rom to have.
Can I install this ROM using Rom Manager? Will there be any issues if I do that?
    Thanks.

  34. Mike says:

Beautiful job! Everything from the loading screen to the updated TouchWiz is fantastic. I tried some other ROMs and didn’t think I’d miss the stock S4 camera that much, but it’s really one of the best ones out there. And I do like TouchWiz. Without all the bloatware it’s so much better. Thanks for a great ROM!

  35. Mike says:

After a few days of use, I have only found one issue, and thought I would bring it here to see if there is a possible solution.

As of now, I am unable to send/receive MMS messages. I’ve gone into the APN settings and ensured that they were correct for my carrier (Telus), but this has not helped. Settings are:

    Name: TELUS SP
APN: sp.telus.com (Blank this out if possible)
    Proxy: 74.49.0.18 (This too)
    Port: 80 (This too)
    Username:
    Password: <Not set
    Server:
    MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mmsc
    MMS Proxy: 74.49.0.18
    MMS Port: 80
    MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
    MCC: 302
    MNC: 220
    APN type: mms

I got these off of Android forums.

I’ve noticed some other comments from Wicked users, in particular ATT users, who have had the same issue, but I can’t seem to find if there is a resolution to this issue. Any thoughts?

Also, the battery life on this ROM is UNBELIEVABLE. I’m not joking when I say it’s lasting at least twice as long as when I had CyanogenMod 10.2 installed. Simply amazing!

    Thanks for your time.

  36. I think everything published made a lot of sense.
But, what about this? suppose you added
a little content? I mean, I don’t want to tell you how to run your blog, but what if
you added a title that makes people want more? I mean Wicked ROM for Galaxy S4!
    [T-Mobile/AT&T/Canadian/GT-i9505][DEBLOATED] | GalaxyS4Root.com
is kinda vanilla. You could peek at Yahoo’s home page and
watch how they create post headlines to grab people interested.

You might try adding a video or a pic or two to grab readers interested about everything’ve
got to say. In my opinion, it could make your posts a little livelier.
