Looking to upgrade your Verizon Galaxy S4 to the latest Android 5.0.1 TouchWiz firmware?

If you are on older MDK bootloader, you will definitely want to install a custom Lollipop ROM so you don’t lose root and ability to flash AOSP ROMs.  For that, definitely check out EGRLP Lollipop ROM.

Based on latest Android 5.0.1 Verizon firmware, this little beasty ROM will give you the latest Android 5.0.1 TouchWiz Lollipop on your Verizon S4 without all the bloatware.  This ROM has been de-bloated so you will find the minimal number of apps and tweaked for faster performance/great battery life.

Also you will find goodies like custom dark theme (that should save you battery life), particle effects for lockscreen, Viper4Android, Flash Player, and custom HydraMax kernel.  WiFi hotspot seems to be working out of the box (for me it’s working fine).

Overall, this is a great custom ROM for those of you on older MDK bootloader and want to run the latest Android Lollipop with TouchWiz.  So definitely check it out if this is your cup of tea and do let me know what you think!

What is a Custom ROM?

A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.

With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.

How to Install Custom ROMs

First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.

Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!
