For this week’s Verizon Galaxy S4 SCH-i545 ROM of the week, check out Jelly Beans ROM!
UPDATE: Build 7 is OUT, please CLICK HERE to see it instead of this one, thx!
One of my favorite ROMs on the Verizon Note 2 (and also one of the best/stable ROMs), the XDA developer BeansTown106 has been making some awesome ROMs for many other Galaxy devices in the past. Certainly, Jelly Beans ROM is one of the best ROMs that’s going to give you the stability of stock firmware without all the bloatware and with lots of cool features.
There’s a ton of great features on the Jelly Beans ROM for the Verizon S4 and my favorites are native hotspot working out of the box, multi-window enabled for all apps natively (no need to use apps to add), option for long-press Menu button to kill apps, continuous scrolling launcher (keep going to the right or left), and UI customizations through its JellyBeans Settings.
Most of Verizon bloatware have been removed and there are performance/battery tweaks you will definitely notice over stock. I am sure this ROM will get many more new features as we go on (and I only listed the ones I like the most here) but it’s already shaping up to be a really great custom ROM.
If there’s one custom ROM you want to install every couple months, definitely go with Jelly Beans ROM, you can’t go wrong with this one. Try it out this week(end) and do let me know what you think!
For general installation tutorial, see our custom ROM installation guide.
What is a Custom ROM?
A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.
With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.
How to Install Custom ROMs
First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.
Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!
