I know some of you asked me for the stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware for those of you on older MDK bootloader with Verizon Galaxy S4.  Well, there’s a ROM for that!

Yes, this stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat ROM comes with root and also AROMA graphical installer which allows you to choose every app installed on your Verizon S4.  In fact, you can remove every Samsung/Verizon app if you want to.

Other than that, this ROM does have unlocked bootloader along with KToonsez kernel, which allows for overclocking.  Also you will find nifty apps like Wanam Xposed app to fully tweak your UI and Xposed App Settings to run your apps in tablet/hybrid/custom DPI mode.  Oh yeah, there is a modded 4×5 TouchWiz launcher so you can fit more apps.

So, if you are looking for a good stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat experience without the bloatware and just the features you want, check out stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat ROM this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

What is a Custom ROM?

A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.

With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.

How to Install Custom ROMs

First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.

Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!

does this apply only to those with MK2 ? Ive already done the OTA update to 4.4.2 without realizing I couldn’t root it 🙁
can i do this with already having the build NC5 on my phone, or do i need to downgrade to MK2 using Odin?

good news. ..I am a 58 y/0 S4 neophyte. I made the mistake of updating to NC5 OTA but yes there is still hope. You can go back to MK2 (but boot loader stays NC5) but you can obtain root. Then you can go back forward with an update to 4.4.2 and yes it works. Thanks to TECHGUY2002 on XDA Heres the link:

I need some help. My Verizon S4 did the over the air update and was working fine for a week or so. I had the unlocked bootloader previously and it removed that and I was completely stock. Now my phone says “Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again” I tried Kies and it doesn’t see my phone. Odin fails a few seconds in. I think it’s because I have 4.4. Can someone please help me and lead me in the right direction. Thank you so much in advance!

Where do we stand after towel root now, what Roms specifically work with safestrap and 3.72? As now there are rooted devices using an nc5 boot loader

  7. maplewood says:

How is this installed? Via SafeStrap? If not must SS be removed first?

  8. maplewood says:

DOH! It says it right there — don’t install with SafeStrap!

Hey, I could use some help.. So I got a new SCH-i545 and rooted using towel no problem.. Installed Titanium and went through the list of all apps to remove bloatware.. Problem was, I had accidentally been UNselecting the apps that I wanted, not selecting them, so when I started the batch remove it started killing systems apps fast and hard (as Titanium does). I realized what I did a few seconds in, and yanked the battery, but the phone still wont boot up, gets stuck on the verizon screen (IDIOT!). I can, however, get to the odin download screen, and got odin up and running and connected to my pc..
So now heres my question.. What do I flash? I have been doing a lot of research on what rom to choose (so I dont make things worse), but am getting confused with all of the talk about locked bootloaders and knox and etc.
Can someone provide me a specific ROM or instructions on how to get my phone back to a usable state? I have a SCH-i545 (verizon s4) that (previously) had 4.4.2 with knox. What do I need to flash?
Any help (or a point in the right direction) is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Max,
    I have Sgh-i545, verizon S4
    4.4.2
    Build is NK1
I have been able to root it, but cannot install Custom recovery
    CWM/TWRP, nothing works
the dd trick does not work as well, as it cannot find the folder
I tried this All-in-one tool, but when the phones into recovery, it is always Stock Android Recovery, cannot flash CM12.1 as it says “Signature cannot be verified”
WHAT can I do at this time? I am at my wits end…
