For this week’s Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720 ROM of the week, check out the latest version of Force ROM.

UPDATE: Check out the TriForce ROM instead!!!

Force ROM is based on MDL Sprint firmware and comes with KTweaker/Ktoonseze kernel with support for overclocking up to 2.3Ghz.

You will find KTweaker app on-board so you can overclock your CPU to 2.3Ghz (although I don’t recommend OC unless you absolutely need it) and also undervolt CPU to save battery life. (Be careful when undervolting as your phone can freeze, just try small changes at a time.)

Some great features included hacked native hotspot (free wifi tethering), Viper4Android Sound Mod (for tweaking your sound on speakers/headphones), long-press menu kill button, 4-in-1 boot menu, and some more.

The coolest feature on the Force ROM is its transition animations. Once you use it, you will love it over stock transitions.

Overall, Force ROM is really for those of you looking for an efficient Sprint ROM without all the bloatware. You will find most of Samsung bloatware removed on this ROM while it has been optimized for faster performance and better battery life.

If this fits your flashing budget, flash it this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

What is a Custom ROM?

A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.

With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.

How to Install Custom ROMs

First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.

Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!

    Hey Max,

I have been having trouble accessing my sd card that is installed in my s4. When I go to install the rom that is on my sd card or even perform a backup to my sd card through cwm recovery I get the message “Can’t mount /external_sd”. Any way to fix this?

Can you read the SD card on your computer? Sometimes SD cards go bad, one of mine works 25% of the time. It might be time to get a new one. Especially Extreme microSD cards from SanDisk are pretty bad at doing this. You can try testing with another SD card if you have another one.

I can read it on the computer and I can even move things to it such my music and things but it just doesn’t let me access it from cwm recovery. I have a 64 gb Sandisk Extreme.

Hey Allen, try formatting your external sd card using MS-DOS (FAT). I had this issue when I was trying to backup to my external using Philz.

Btw, this is a pretty sweet ROM. It’s been my first and daily. Really smooth TW-based. I liked it so much I donated to the Unknown dev. The only issue I’ve had so far is that I can’t add any Dashclock widgets to the lockscreen and contacted the dev via email about it, but never got a reply. I don’t have enough posts to post a comment on his ROM thread. I emailed him once about implementing Quick unlock from AOKP and said he would add it so maybe we’ll see it in his 3.0 update.

I’ve been using this ROM a few days now and really like it, reative to the stock ROM there was a very noticable improvement in battery life and speed!

My only concern is after flashing the ROM my S4 isn’t detected anymore when I hook it up to a PC or Mac… Any suggestions on how to correct?

Love the ROM. It’s super smooth and the transitions are awesome. My only issue is it doesn’t seem to be able to find any of my blue tooth devises. Any ideas how to fix this?

Hi Max, I’m loving this rom. Question I have is about the notification Sprint pushes about the MF9 OTA update. If I install that will it ruin the phones root status? Or is there another way to get the features of the update working (mainly move apps to sdcard)? Thanks!

Can I unlock GSM on my Sprint S4 model SPH-L720 for use in Brazil? I buy by and can’t use.
    Can you help me?

  7. Denny says:

Is anyone else having problems installing? Mine keeps giving me an error install. I am running the MF9 update and using TWRP I have flashed many ROM’s on my old Droid Bionic and flashed Google Play on my S4 without problems. Any thoughts? Thanks!

TriForceROM 4.0 is an awesome rom. Works really well. I update it to 4.1 and the wifi no longer works. What is the proper way to flash the update?
