Check out the latest Dirty Unicorns ROM, available for all Qualcomm-based variants of Galaxy S4 including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, Verizon, and GT-i9505. (Not available for GT-i9500 sorry!)
*Note – For AT&T or Verizon, you must have unlocked bootloader to install this ROM!
*Note 2 – The video overview is for Galaxy S3 but 99% of the features are the same as the one for S4.
Since this ROM is identical to the Galaxy S3 version, here’s an except of its features:
If so, check out the latest Dirty Unicorns ROM, which is an excellent custom ROM based on the latest Android 5.1.1 and brings you a high level of great customizations. Camera works great out of the box (I recommend the Google Camera on Play Store so you get Panorama, Lens Blur, and PhotoSphere modes) along with excellent navigation customization where you can customize all of your buttons (including Home, Back, and Menu buttons with short, long, and double-press) or even disable them altogether and go with soft navigation buttons, which you can also customize with your favorite shortcuts.
Of course, that’s not all and you will be able to fully customize your status bar, add weather widgets on lockscreen/status bar, change LCD density, and much more. All of these tweaks can be found under Dirty Tweaks in Settings.
For performance, you won’t get any better than this as Dirty Unicorns brings you all the performance improvements of Android 5.1.1 (30% faster than KitKat) and much much more. Overall, this is an excellent custom ROM to get you up to speed with Android’s latest improvements along with custom options provided by open source ROM developers so definitely give this ROM a go this week(end) and do let me know what you think!
Download Android 5.1 Gapps(DO NOT USE older Gapps, you will FC!!!)
*Note – For AT&T SGH-i337 or Verizon SCH-i545, you CANNOT USE SAFESTRAP, you must have CWM or TWRP recovery installed already!
Make sure you are using CWM v.220.127.116.11 or higher to install Android 5.0+ Lollipop ROMs! Also you can use TWRP v18.104.22.168 or higher. You can update your CWM recovery using ROM Manager app on Play Store or TWRP Recovery using Goo Manager on Play Store. If having trouble, you can update manually, see our CWM/TWRP Recovery for Galaxy S4. For AT&T or Verizon with Loki, see How to Update with TWRP v22.214.171.124!
To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop or get force-closed keyboard error on boot, reboot into CWM recovery, go to Mounts & Storage->format /system. For TWRP, go to Wipe->Advanced Wipe->Wipe /system.)

What is a Custom ROM?
A custom ROM is a custom, modified operating system that you can install on your Android device. Basically it's like installing Windows OS on a Macbook. By installing a custom ROM, you can bypass stock factory settings like locked hotspot tether, install new Android versions early, or even convert your phone into another OS.
With a custom ROM, you can really maximize the capabilities of your smartphone by adding custom features that have been developed by open source developers.
How to Install Custom ROMs
First, you will need to root your device, if it is not rooted yet, follow our root tutorial and root your phone.
Once rooted, you should have TWRP installed on your phone. Installation of a custom ROM is easy if you learn the basic of it. If you don't know how to install custom ROMs using TWRP recovery, see our tutorial on How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!
